Our Early Thanksgiving

Last Monday morning, Zach and I woke up to begin preparing for our early Thanksgiving dinner while Garrett worked. It all began with putting our turkey in the sink to defrost for an hour and Zach and I running to the grocery store for some last minute items that we forgot to buy on Saturday.

After we got back from the store and after many phone calls to my mom on how to prepare this turkey, Zach and I finally began the turkey cooking process. Since this was my first time ever cooking anything for thanksgiving, I must admit I was pretty nervous about cooking this turkey.

Zach and I took the turkey out of the packaging and began to season it in the cooking pan. After we were finished, it was time for the turkey to go in the oven. Little did I know, this was going to be the hardest part! While Zach opened the oven, I grabbed the turkey in the pan and attempted to put it in the oven when all of a sudden, the pan tipped over, allowing all of the water and butter to spill into the oven and across my kitchen floor. Let's just say the turkey tried to fly away, but luckily we saved him before he fell on the floor. It was a mess. After that, I made sure that Zach helped me take the turkey out of the oven. Here are some photos:

After finally getting this turkey in the oven, Zach and I prepared the sweet potato and green bean casseroles. We had fun cooking together, but decided we needed a break from after being in the kitchen for hours. We decided to let Garrett babysit our turkey while we went shopping.

When we came back, the house smelled so yummy, and Mr. Turkey was looking great! Before we knew it, the turkey was finished. It was a success and turned out to be delicious.

We then cooked the ham, warmed up the casseroles, and then set the table. It was 7:00 pm, Garrett just got home from school, and some of our friends started to come over with all of their goodies. We had so much fun that night and, of course, ate a LOT of food! I'm so happy that we got to have one more Thanksgiving dinner together before Zach went on his mission. I am so thankful for my brother and his willingness to serve the Lord for two years. He is such a great example to me!
