Saturday!

On Saturday, Garrett and I decided we needed to get out of the house! We had been cooped up in our tiny apartment for forever and we were ready to get some fresh air! The weather was in the 50's, which is definitely warm for what it has been lately, so we decided to take advantage of it. For Two weeks now, I have been training for my first half marathon that is on May. 5th here in Provo but have just been running on the treadmill at the gym because it has been way to cold. I figured this would be my chance to try and run outside! I googled trails and found this trail called The Provo River Trail that is in the mountains and is a total of 12 miles! Once I saw pictures I knew that we had to go, I just would need to talk Garrett into going on a run instead of a hike!  After I showed Garrett the pictures and told him he could skateboard by me instead of run, he was excited about going!
When we got there we were not sure exactly if we were at the beginning of the trail or in the middle so we just decided to start where we were. I set my pedometer on my iPod because I needed to run a total of 5 miles according to my running schedule I'm following, and we were on our way through the mountains! It was very windy at times and it was definitely tough running up some the hills... especially since I am NOT used to running in this elevation but it was so fun! Garrett was a great "running" partner and he took some great pics with his phone too!
After running for 30 minutes, I checked my pedometer and it said we had only gone a mile... it really did not make sense at the time because I have been running 10 minute miles but I figured maybe being outside made my pace a lot slower so I told Garrett we need to go 4 more miles... and we kept running and running and running. Along the trail it was so pretty! It was so cool running along a trail with a river on one side of you and the mountains of the other side. It was so much better than running on the the treadmill because not only did I have things to look at, but I had my Garrett right next to me skate boarding so we got to spend some fun time together!

G waiting on me at the end of the tunnel.
After running a while, we got to the end of the trail where there was a huge waterfall called Bridal Veil Falls. It was so pretty but the trail leading up to it was covered in ice. Garrett and I decided to try and walk closer to the waterfall by walking on the ice. Lets just say walking on ice is a lot harder then in looks....

Waterfall from far away!

I guess Garrett thought it was hilarious to take pictures of me falling on the ice because I found all of these on his phone after we got home!

Iced over path

After finally getting up to the water fall, I started to get really cold after all of the falling on the ice so we decided to head back. Right before I started running again I look at my pedometer and it said we had only gone a total .5 mile more then the last time I checked. I kept thinking to myself I am definitely out of shape and I need to run more outside because there is no way I was going to be able to run a half marathon at this rate. Well after another 50 minute of running we finally made it back to our car and I was so tired and so was Garrett! That was enough adventure for the day! When we got home I checked if my pedometer was right on the miles we ran and found out the pedometer was very WRONG! We ran a total of 8Miles NOT 1.5! I guess I am not as out of shape as I thought I was, but I still have A LOT of work to do.
